Make a list of some of the Athenian values that you encountered in the text. Choose one and write a couple of sentences (or more) about why it might be good for the trial of Socrates.
the list for the Athenians values:
1) The Athenians have a democratic democracy just like us and they also trade food with other countries.
2) I underlined a couple of sentences that might be good for the trial because i believe that they have strong words.
For example one of them talks about how the Spartans spend most of their lives training to have courage and trying to meet suffering. and they compare how they(the athenians) have in their blood and they don't have to practice.
Something else that i underlined was that they don't praise Homer because the things he writes aren't true, they think.

Imus homework

Blog homework
1. According to the NAACP, why should Imus be silenced?
According to NAACP Imus should be silenced because they think that the statement he made really made fun of and spoke wrong about the African American women in the basketball team. The problem was that he wasn’t playing at all, what he said was because he really meant it. They want to take away all those offensive words out of our media. They have even talked to record players and convince them to stop the way they compose their music.
2. According to Frank Rich, why should Imus not be silenced?
According to Frank Rich Imus should not e silenced because he has the freedom of speech and because other people make fun jokes. For example there is a comedian named George lopez. He makes rude jokes about the Mexican and the people all laugh at them because he says the truth. Besides he himself is a Mexican. He says that if people loke him can say the truth why can’t Imus say it too?

Plato reading pp.85-93
2) What is your reaction to the ending of the section? What is good and or bad about the type of society outlined by Socrates?
My reaction to the ending of the section was that i was very surprised. I didn't think that they would actually choose that plan. I think that its a bad type of society outlined by Socrates because not everyone wants to do one thing or should i say job. In my opinion i think that if you want to have to jobs you should be able to. I do believe that a person could multytask perfectly.

1) Why the comments helped me write better? My Rage paragraph
The comments that Chris and Lishane left on my blog were really helpful because they encourage me to keep on writing the same way I did. They didn’t really give me advice to change what I wrote. What I like about what they said was that they told me if they could relate to what I wrote.
I was angry when i was seven years old and i lived with my grandmother. It all started when my cousin, Connie, who was 21, wanted to watch TV. My cousin Diana and i were watching cartoons and Connie wanted to change the channel. We got really mad because my grandmother made us give the control to her. Well we decided that we were going to run away because we were really madat everyone. We thought that my grandmother prefered my cousin Connie. So Diana and me started packing our clothes in a suitcase and we called Connie's boyfriend to come and pick us up. We waited for him in the corner and after standing there for two hours we realized that he wasn't going to come for us. We went in the house and they started making fun of us. My garndmother then told us that we needed to put our clothes away.
Chris connel
aw, I really like this piece about how dissapointed you were with reality. It really showed an amazing vantage point from that of a child and I really liked that. Unfortunatly I cannot relate to attempting to run away but I can't say that the thought never crossed my mind :]
2) Why the comments helped me write better? What I like to do paragraph.
I think that this comments that Jessi and Brittany left were really helpful. Because they gave me more strength on doing what I’m supposes to do, being a mom. I’m really glad to see that my classmates encourage me and that they don’t tell me anything bad about me having a baby. I thought that people were going to be mean and think bad things about me just because I have a baby. I really grateful to see that they help me get through this stage of my life.
My life as a teenager is very different from others. First of all i am a student, a daughter, and a mother. Yes i know,a MOTHER. I have a 4 month old baby named Daniel. He is everything to me , i love him to death. I never thought that i would be a mother at this age, but now that i am, i'm putting all my effort and time into him. Now i comprehend what my mother went through as a mother. I had to experience everything she went through, All the nights without sleeping, making sure he is happy, changing his diper and a lot more. I know that what i did was counterfactual but i will never regret having him. He means the whole world to me. I think about him all the time, and when i get home he is there waitin for me with a grin. That's what i most like his smile. I just can't wait untill he grows up and realize that i love him. I can't wait untill he calls me mom.
Brittany’s comment
Yah WOW. Being a mom is a big responsability to take on, but when he grows up I think that at the end it all will be worth it. You will also be happy that you did your job at taking care of him, and doing everything in your power to make sure that he was fed and taken cared of. I think that considering that your a sudent and a mother at the same time makes you stronger then you were before, and making your stronger can make you withstand more and more tolerance. I know how hard it is to take care of a small child at a young age, but I don't know how it feels to take care of my own child so knowing that you can handle it make you a hero in a way. Your especially to those who can't handle all of which you are experiencing right at this period

3/28 Republic assignment
1. Short Paragraph – Personal Reflection: Before reading the selection from Plato write at least one full paragraph on this question: Why do you think Plato (or anyone else) would want to censor Homer (yesterday the question was about Hesiod)? You might want to think about Achilles as a "hero," and why or why not his personal characteristics are something that should be promoted, or not.
I think that Plato or any one else would want to censor Homer because he creates a wrong image of the people, for example Achilles. He makes people think that Achilles is more important than gods. He makes him seem like if he is the most important character. Then the gods tokk Achilles side that showed them that they are unfair.
a. According to Plato, what are some aspects of poetry that should be banned and why? In other words, how can poetry undermine the education of a Guardian?
He does not agree with Homer writing about the after life. Plato believes that it doesn't exist.
And
b. What should poetry “teach” and why? Poetry should teach that a man is not perfect and that he has knowledge to teach whats right.
4. If you were talking to Plato what would you say to him? Do you agree with his ideas? Do you think poetry, or literature in general, should be put to the purposes that he says it should?
if i would talk to Plato i would say that i totally agree with him and that he is right. I think that they should censor Homer and the Hesiod. I kind of think that they are interesting to read but i do agree with Plato that they make a wrong image about the gods.

3/27 Republic assignment
1. Short Paragraph – Personal Reflection: Before reading the selection from Plato write at least one full paragraph on this question: Why do you think Plato (or anyone else) would want to censor Hesiod? Remember that Hesiod was the poet who wrote about the fight between the gods and the titans.
I think that Plato or any one else would want to censor Hesiod because it talks bad about the gods and goddesses. He would write poetry talkin about what the gods did. For example he said that fathers would eat their children and that husbands would cheat on their wifes. He would write things that would make people think that the gods were basically like humans because they did what humans do today but even worst because they kill their own children for power. Plato writes about how the gods should be seen as good inmortal people.
a. What are Homer and Hesiod guilty of?
They are guilty of presenting a wrong image of the gods.
And
b. What are the two main characteristics of “god” and what are the laws/principles of story telling based on those characteristics?
The to main characteristics that the gods have are that they never tell lies and that and that gods are the cause, not of all things, but only the good.
4. Compare what you wrote in your personal reflection above (#1) with what Plato wrote. How close were you to what Plato wrote?
I think that i was very close to what Plato thought. I was actually right. because if you think about it what i wrote makes sense.
